Strategic AI ROadmap for Mobility
Project "SAIROM" - AI-based solutions for a sustainable mobility transformation
2024 - 2025
Change is urgently needed in the field of mobility, but the requirements are not yet fully specified, and the level of acceptance and the impact of these changes on the environment, economy and society need to be anticipated and assessed. There are sufficient reasons to believe that artificial intelligence (AI) can help address these challenges by acting as a technological enabler (e.g. in designing electric vehicles with higher efficiency), influencing the public (e.g. decision support systems) and estimating the effects (e.g. AI-assisted simulation models).
The main objective of SAIROM is to find ways to address these challenges using AI technology: By analyzing the current state of the art, AI applications that can drive the transition to a sustainable mobility system can be identified and their impact can be assessed. With a strong focus on fairness, diversity and mobility equity, data and technological development needs can be identified and a strategic roadmap can be formulated that identifies further research and development on AI technologies that support individual mobility decisions to improve social, economic and environmental sustainability.
SAIROM connects AI research communities (represented by the Know-Center) with sustainability research communities (represented by the Institute of Environmental Systems Science) and thus lays the foundation for successful future research.
