SMOTIES Travelling Talk - Mobility
How can active mobility be promoted in rural areas?
On 04.05.2025, the Center for Active Mobility, represented by Nina Hampl, took part in the SMOTIES Traveling Talk in Oberzeiring as part of the SMOTIES project. Interesting and forward-looking aspects of mobility in rural areas were discussed.
The"SMOTIES - Creative works with small and remote places" project, which is co-financed by the European Union, aims to develop creative solutions and projects in small and remote places. Through the partnership with the Institute of Design & Communication at FH Joanneum, teachers and students are working on a variety of strategies to improve the quality of life in remote places.
At the SMOTIES talk on the topic of "Mobility", Prof. Dr. Nina Hampl and Dipl.Ing. Martijn Kiers presented their views and findings. Nina Hampl focused in particular on the question "How to foster active mobility in rural areas", while Mr. Kiers addressed the topic "Who does public space belong to? The traffic or the people?". The presentations were rounded off by a stimulating discussion. Nina Hampl, reflected on the importance of active mobility in rural areas. She emphasized the role of sustainable mobility options, especially in terms of environmental, health and economic benefits. She also highlighted how these measures can contribute to improving the quality of life in small communities. Martijn Kiers presented his insights on public space and transportation, based on his extensive teaching and research experience in the fields of mobility, smart city concepts and sustainable transport at FH Joanneum in Kapfenberg. His speech offered valuable insights into innovative solutions for mobility in rural areas.
