Promoting active mobility through play
Students from the University of Graz present prototypes in the "Selected Topics" course
As part of the course "Selected Topics: Low Carbon mobility behavior and policy options" at the University of Graz, dedicated students not only acquired theoretical knowledge, but also actively participated in the development of games that aim to make sustainable mobility tangible. On February 1, the students proudly presented their prototypes and invited their fellow students to try out the games "Carbon Cruise", "Active Mobility" and "Sustain a Move".
The games, which are not only entertaining but also based on scientific findings about mobility, are aimed specifically at different target groups, including "professionals" and "families". This diversity makes it possible to cover different aspects of sustainable mobility and thus create a broader awareness of environmentally friendly transportation.
"Carbon Cruise" invites players to minimize their CO2 emissions while moving through the surroundings of Graz. Active Mobility" uses the game principle of Monopoly to promote physical activity and environmentally friendly transportation. "Sustain a Move" aims to motivate families to make conscious and sustainable mobility choices.
The presentation of the prototypes was not only an opportunity for the students to showcase their creative skills, but also an opportunity for their fellow students to try out the games and actively provide feedback. This interactive approach to the topic of sustainable mobility helps to raise awareness and encourage dialog about environmentally friendly transportation options.
The positive reactions of the students during the presentation of the prototypes illustrate the potential of these innovative games to promote sustainable mobility. The active participation of fellow students showed not only interest, but also the need for creative approaches to raise environmental awareness in society. The games thus not only offer an entertaining change of pace in the academic environment, but also serve as an effective tool for raising awareness of the challenges and solutions in the field of sustainable transportation.
The initiative shows that the University of Graz not only teaches about relevant topics on a theoretical level, but also takes concrete steps to actively involve students in the development of sustainable solutions. With such innovative approaches, the students hope to contribute to the promotion of environmentally friendly mobility in society and at the same time spread enthusiasm for sustainable lifestyles. The hope now lies in the dissemination and further development of these games in order to make a sustainable contribution to the promotion of environmentally friendly mobility far beyond the university boundaries.
